Cold brew coffee offers a very distinct flavor compared to traditional hot coffee. It is significantly less bitter because the cold brewing method slowly extracts coffee oils rather than purging them out quickly with hot water. Yet despite being less bitter, the flavor is no less full.

Why Make It With Spring Water

People who prefer cold brew over hot coffee tend to rave about its taste. It turns out that's why we recommend making it with spring water. If taste is what you're after, we can think of no better water to start with than spring water.

All water has a flavor. That flavor affects what cold brew coffee tastes like. So think about it. If you already prefer spring water because it tastes better than what comes out of the tap, doesn't it make sense that cold brew made with the same water will taste better, too? Absolutely.

Using spring water delivered in glass bottles means not having your cold brew coffee altered by things that don't normally come with water. Natural spring water goes from the ground into glass bottles. It contains all the minerals nature intended for it to have. It is going to give you a better tasting coffee than municipal water out of the tap.

A Few Cold Brewing Tips

Now that we've settled the question of why you should make your cold grew with spring water, let us talk about some tips for making a better brew. First, making the best cold brew requires an investment of time. One of the reasons hot coffee is so bitter is that you're brewing it so quickly. You can't do that with cold brew.

Plan on 12-18 hours of brewing time. Steep the ground coffee in a steeping filter so you don't have to filter later. Also, given the longer brewing time, you will probably want to make larger quantities with each brew so that you never run out of this fantastic beverage.

Also note the darker roasts work better for cold brew. Cold water doesn't extract all the oils you're after, so a medium or light roast will not be as flavorful. You can always add more coffee to boost the flavor if you like.
